1916 Buffalo Nickel - Atypical Die Clash ADC-5C-1916-01

Description

ADC-5c-1916-01 is an atypical die clash on a 1916 Buffalo nickel, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. The coin went through two separate clash events, and MDC suggests one die was slightly off center when they clashed, which put the marks in unexpected places. What looks like an extra left hind leg is really a mark from the front of the Indian's face and eye socket. A line through E PLURIBUS UNUM came from the forward part of the Indian's chin; the usual mark here comes from the underside of the chin and runs horizontally through the motto, while this one runs vertically and belongs to the other clash event. The clash also pressed an indent into the field beside the Indian's head. The coin is in David Elliot's collection.
