Description

ADC-5c-1916-01 This 1916(P) Indian nickel underwent two separate clash events. It appears that one of the dies was a bit off center when the clashing of the dies occurred for the clash marks seen are in unusual places. This coin is in the collection of David Elliot. The top image of the three shows what appears to be an extra hind left leg. This is actually the clash mark left by the front of the Indian’s face, along with the eye socket. The line through E. PLURIBUS . UNUM is from the foreword part of the Indian’s chin. The normal clash mark seen for this area is the bottom of the chin, which is more of a horizontal line through the motto instead of a vertical line. This is a separate clash event from the die clash marks seen in the above image. The last image shows an indent formed by the clash in the field adjacent to the Indian’s head.
