1900 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

Attributed by the Wexler Team and cross-referenced as CONECA 1-R-II and VAM-11 (Wexler Variety ID: 1900 $1 WDDR-001), this is among the most visually impressive doubled die reverses documented for the Philadelphia Mint Morgan Dollar series. The doubling is strongest on the reverse motto: collectors find very nice letter separation throughout GOD WE TRUST. The arrows are boldly doubled across the shaft, heads, and feathers. Significant doubling also appears on the leaves, branches, and knot of the olive branch. Additional, lighter doubling is visible on the eagle's left wing, the lower tail feathers, the lower left serif of the A in STATES, and the F of OF. Obverse die markers include light die polishing in the recessed upper hair and LIBERTY letters, plus two light parallel die scratches directly in front of the eye. No reverse die markers beyond the doubling are noted. The 1900 Morgan Dollar is a widely available date that nonetheless attracts strong specialist interest. WDDR-001 represents a Class I rotated hub doubling and is one of the more dramatic confirmed doubled die reverses in the Morgan series, making premium attributed examples consistently sought.
