Description
1900-O VAM-8 O/O/CC Centered Shifted Left Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, December 1965. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM. '''8 III2 5 - C3f (O/O/CC Centered Shifted Left) (181)''' '''Obverse III2 5 -''' Date set further left than normal. '''Reverse C3f''' - Normal die with III O mint mark, centered and upright, with doubled O punched over CC. O is doubled at top left outside with notch missing at 11 o'clock in doubling and doubled at bottom inside of opening as a thin curved line. The CC mint mark is centered and shifted left under the O and shows as a thin broken curve on the left and two thick projections on the right connected to the O. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments: # The [[1900-O VAM-8 comes along with three other variations attributed as the [[1900-O VAM-8A, [[1900-O VAM-8B & [[1900-O VAM-8C. The difference between these is that the VAM-8B is a die clashed coin. The VAM-8 shows the O/O/CC mintmark details. The VAM-8A has the same mintmark along with pitting believed to be caused by rusted dies. The VAM-8B has these details with die clashed letters n,s,t, on the obverse and the designer's M on the reverse. The VAM-8C has extensive polish marks on the reverse to remove the clash damage. # Mintmark on the reverse which is the primary attribute to recognize the VAM-8 varieties. You will notice that the mintmarks on the VAM-8 varieties are also shifted slightly left of center. # The 1900-O/CC VAM-7 is one of several O over CC coins.
