1892 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

The 1892 Barber Quarter WDDR-006, attributed by the Wexler Team (designation 1892 25¢ WDDR-006), is a Class II doubled die reverse on the first year of Charles E. Barber's quarter design, struck in 90% silver at Philadelphia. Class II doubling spreads toward the center, visible on USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, the stars, and the outer leaves — with the strongest doubling on UNITED. The first year of any series naturally draws attention, and a documented doubled die reverse on the 1892 Barber Quarter adds numismatic depth to an already historically significant coin. Die markers confirm attribution throughout: the obverse flag of the 1 is slightly repunched to the south; a die crack runs from the 2 through the bust tip and the two lower right stars; another crack runs through the upper right five stars; and a third runs through the third through fifth left stars from the bottom. The reverse shows a die chip in the upper opening of the last S in STATES, and die cracks through the tops of UNITED, the ATE of STATES, and the MERIC of AMERICA — an extensive network providing multiple stage-anchor points.
