Description

1889-P VAM-6 Doubled 9, Tripled 1 and Ear Bottom, Far Date Discovered by George Mallis, July 1964. Revised 2010. 6 (revised) III26 - C3a (Doubled 9, Tripled 1 and Ear Bottom, Far Date) (190) Obverse III2 6 - 1 strongly tripled at bottom and below upper crossbar. 9 strongly doubled at top outside and slightly at bottom inside of both loops. Slightly tripled bottom of ear. Date set further right than normal. Some specimens have a die chip between loops of left 8 on right. Diagnostic--Strongly tripled 1 bottom and 9 double at top. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: The tripled bottom of the ear was discovered by Leroy Van Allen in November 2007 and the 1889-P VAM-6 was added to the growing list of amazing 1889 Doubled Ear coins. This variety comes with chips on right of first 8 and without chips. This variety also comes clashed W/NO transfer and a phantom E.
