Description
1889-P VAM-15 Doubled 889, Ear & Arrow Feathers Discovered by Martin Field, August 1980. Revised 9/2012. 15 (revised) III2 15-C3f (Doubled 889 & Arrow Feathers) (190) Obverse III2 15 - Doubled 889 in date. Slightly doubled left 8 at top inside of lower loop, right 8 at top inside of upper loop and 9 doubled at top inside of upper loop and at right inside of lower loop. Doubled ear at right inside and lobe bottom. Die marker - Die scratch at back of cap fold next to left U. Reverse C3f - Slightly doubled lower edge of arrow feathers and left shafts. DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: April 2012, Leroy determined the full coin below was a 1889-P VAM-15. Be aware that the doubled ear of the 1889-P VAM-15 is an "Evil Mimic" with the 1889-P VAM-30, as pointed out by John Roberts (aka Vampicker) and confirmed by Mr. Leroy Van Allen. Check your date placement to make sure of which variety you actually have. Date position for the 1889-P VAM-15 is normal right on the 3rd denticle to the right of the bust point whereas, the date position for 1889-P VAM-30 is normal left on the same denticle.
