1887-O VAM-22A Doubled Eyelid & Stars, Pitted Reverse Discovered by Jeff Oxman, December 1997. Revision by Larry Eakins, May 2010. This coin is a Top 100 Morgan VAM '''22A'''(revised) '''III218 · C3a (Doubled Eyelid & Stars, Pitted Reverse)(181)''' '''Reverse C3a–''' Raised dots of die rust pitting that starts at olive branch end and progresses to below tail feathers. '''DPIS - ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: :Reverse: '''Comments: # The [[1887-O VAM-22, [[1887-O VAM-22A & [[1887-O VAM-22B were all produced but the exact same pair of dies. # The 1887-O VAM-22A is known with 1 clash (there may be some that are unclashed), A second clash produced letter transfer and hence the [[1887-O VAM-22B. # This multi-feature VAM variety features a distinctively pitted reverse between the tailfeathers and the wreath bow. The [[1887-O VAM-22A also has a doubled eyelid and doubled left stars. Even after 14 years of being a [[Top 100 Morgan VAMs Morgan variety, the 1887-O VAM-22A is still elusive. Please note that this VAM was formerly known as the [[1887-O VAM-22, only recently being distinguished from its mother die, the now "new" [[1887-O VAM-22. Please note that as of 5-14-2010 an early die state [[1887-O VAM-22A has been reported.
