Documented in the VAM catalog, this Morgan dollar variety is distinguished by specific die characteristics identified through careful die-state analysis and comparison. 1883-S VAM-6 Doubled 18-3 Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, February 1980. 6 III2 5 ∙ C3a (Doubled 18-3) (187) Obverse III2 5 – Doubled 18-3 in date. 1 doubled on surface at top and right side of shaft. First 8 doubled at top inside of upper loop and left inside of lower loop. 3 doubled slightly at bottom inside of lower loop. Reverse C3a – Normal die DPIS - Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: Minor doubling on reverse, particularly the right wreath bough and the letters of AMERICA.
