Description
1882-S VAM-27 Doubled Date Discovered by Martin Field, January 1981. 27 III2 17 · C3a (Doubled Date) (182) Obverse III2 17 – Doubled date. 1 doubled on right side of vertical shaft. First 8 doubled slightly at right outside of lower loop. Second 8 doubled slightly on left inside and strongly on right outside of upper loop. 2 doubled strongly right of upper loop. Reverse C3a - Mint mark centered and upright. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This obverse shared with 1882-S VAM-20 and 1882-S VAM-27. Exact same reverse die used to produce 1882-S VAM-8, 1882-S VAM-24 & 1882-S VAM-27. 1882-S VAM-27 is the later use of this die, with chips forming on the left and right sides of both 8s. Top of Phrygian cap doubled.
