Description
1882-S VAM-18 Doubled Date, S Tilted Left Discovered by Oscar Simpson, March 1977. Revision 2010. 18 (revised) III2 13 - C3b (Doubled Date, S Tilted Left) (186) Obverse III2 13- 1 doubled on right side of shaft. First 8 strongly doubled on left inside and right outside of both loops. Second 8 doubled strongly at very top and left outside of top loop and is doubled slightly at bottom left outside and top right outside of lower loop. 2 doubled at top and right outside of upper loop and on right side of bottom serif. Reverse C3b- Medium mint mark filled and tilted left. Early die state shows fine die polishing lines in fields. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: This obverse shared with 1882-S VAM-14 and 1882-S VAM-18. 1882-S VAM-18 has the later polished die state reverse in the VAM 18/34 marriages. On the last picture of additional pictures, I notated an interesting finding on my CAC graded VAM-18 example that is pictured below, it appears that the eye on my coin has a rather unusual characteristic as if it has a "Spiked" eye. Now, this is not necessarily a characteristic of all VAM-18 examples, just an observation on mine.
