Description
=1882-P VAM-1D Metal in 82= Discovered by Jim Baxter, October 1974. COMMENTS: Three die states are now recognized: 1882-P VAM-1D1 1D1 III2 1 · C3a (Metal in 82) (180) I- 2 R-3 Obverse III2 1 – Second 8 has die chips in bottom right inside of lower loop. Both loops of 2 are filled with shallow raised metal from die chips and flakes with polishing lines. Reverse C3a – Normal die 1882-P VAM-1D2 1D2 III2 1 · C3a (Metal in 82, Rusted Die Pits E) (180) I- 2 R-5 Obverse III2 1 – Second 8 has die chips in bottom right inside of lower loop. Both loops of 2 are filled with shallow raised metal from die chips and flakes with polishing lines. Reverse C3a – Normal die with raised dots from rusted die pits around E of ONE. 1882-P VAM-1D3 1D3 III2 1 · C3a (Metal in 82, Clashed Obverse s) (180) I- 2 R-5 Obverse III2 1 – Clashed die with partial incuse s of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Long die scratch thru B in LIBERTY up thru wheat leaves. Reverse C3a – Normal die with raised dots from rusted die pits around E of ONE.
