Description
1881-S VAM-4 Doubled 18-1, Tripled Left 8 Discovered by Leroy Van Allen,June 1966. Revised 08/2011 4 (revised) III2 4 - C3a (Doubled 18-1) (185) Obverse III2 4- Doubled 18-1 with left 8 surface doubling on bottom outside of lower lop and tripled on top left inside of lower loop plus die chip between the loops on the right of left 8 on some specimens and a short die chip at top left inside of upper loop. Left 1 slightly doubled below upper crossbar and right 1 slightly doubled on left side of vertical shaft. Slightly doubled Phrygian cap top. Reverse C3a - Very slightly doubled some letters in UNITED STATES O AMER. Emission Sequence Obverse: Reverse: Comments: The exact same obverse die was used to produce the 1881-S VAM-4, 1881-S VAM-6
