=1881-S VAM-38 Doubled and Spiked 8's, High S= Discovered by Leroy Van Allen, April 1981. 38 III2 6 - C3o (Doubled and Spiked 8's, High S) (186) Obverse III2 6– Both 8's have short die chip spike at top left inside of upper loop. Left 8 slightly doubled on lower right surface of lower loop. Right 8 strongly doubled at bottom right inside of upper loop. Top of Phrygian cap slightly doubled. Reverse C3o- Mint mark centered and set high. ;Emission Sequence :Obverse: 1881-S VAM-38, 1881-S VAM-9 :Reverse: Comments: # This exact same obverse die is shared with 1881-S VAM-9, 1881-S VAM-10 & 1881-S VAM-38. # The doubling of the top of the cap is VERY weak.
