=1881-S VAM-1D Spike in 8's, Die Gouge O= Discovered 2010. 1D III21 · C3a (Spike in 8's, Die Gouge O) (186, 189) Obverse III21– First 8 has short die chip inside upper loop at 11 o’clock. Second 8 has die flakes in lower loop. Some specimens also show short die chip inside upper loop at 11 o’clock on second 8 and die flakes at top inside of lower loop of first 8. Reverse C3a– Some of these show a broad horizontal die gouge thru O in DOLLAR. Comments: # April 2010 -- The die gouge by the O in DOLLAR was removed from 1881-S VAM-1A and made the diagnostic of 1881-S VAM-1D.
