1881-P VAM-1B Clashed Obverse n & st Discovered by C. Logan McKechnie November 2004. Revised 2015 by Brian Raines 1B III21 · C3a (Clashed Obverse n & st) ( ? ) Obverse III21– Clashed die with faint partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck and partial incuse st of Trust from reverse showing in right hair vee of lower hair edge. Reverse C3a - Normal dies Notes: One of only five 1881-P varieties exhibiting clashed letter transfers. (The others are 1881-P VAM-1C2, 1881-P VAM-14A, 1881-P VAM-17A & 1881-P VAM-1E). 1881-P VAM-1B is double-clashed with the transfer of a partial n from In at the neck edge and st from trust in the hair vee. The few specimens examined have been double-clashed. There may be single clash examples out there, but it is unknown if the letter transfers occurred on the first (or both) clashes. It looks like the 1881-P VAM-1B was relisted as 1881-P VAM-17A. Pending a decision..
