Description
=1880-S VAM-12.1 8/7 Spikes, Doubled 188= Discovered by Gordon Harnack, October 1972. This coin is a Hit List 40 Morgan VAM. 12.1(revised) III2 8 · C3a (8/7 Spikes, Doubled 188) (183) Obverse III2 8 – 80 repunched over 79 in date. Second 8 has a check mark on top of left side of upper loop, a thin diagonal line at top left outside, a faint vertical line at top right outside, a slight bulge of metal at top right inside of upper loop, a diagonal pointed dash attached to bottom outside of lower loop and is doubled at bottom left outside of upper loop. 0 has a small piece of metal at top right and a slight bulge at top left outside. 1 is doubled slightly on surface at right side. First 8 doubled at top left inside and on right inside on surface of lower loop. Reverse C3a – (medium) IV S mint mark at normal height with very slight tilt to left and partially filled loops with heavy polishing lines in upper loop. Very slightly doubled left wreath outside leaves towards rim and some leaves in right wreath. Long polishing line from top of wing up between n and G of In God.
