Description
The 1871 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-1053 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. Its obverse is a small Liberty head facing left in a coronet, close to the nickel three-cent portrait, and its reverse shows 5 CENTS, with CENTS curved, inside a laurel wreath. Two dozen or more are known in nickel. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1188, Adams-Woodin 1197 and Taxay EP815. Cataloged as PCGS #61312.
