Description

Introducing a fresh obverse concept that departs more significantly from the established Seated Liberty formula, J-1086 was struck in the standard silver alloy and paired with a wreath reverse. This later entry in the 1871 dime series shows Barber venturing further from convention as the year's pattern production progressed, gaining confidence to propose more radical departures from the familiar Seated Liberty design that Christian Gobrecht had established decades earlier.
