1870 Indian Head Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1870 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1870 Indian Head cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The TY of LIBERTY shows an extreme Class IV spread, which Wexler gives as southward. Wexler notes no die markers on either side and does not record who submitted the variety. Snow assigns it S1, S2 and S13, along with S22, S28, S33 and S45. CONECA files it as both DDO-001 and RPD-001, and Cherrypickers as FS-01-1870-101. Flynn has it as DDO-003, also RPD-003, and the F.IND.ERS Report as FND-006. According to Wexler's comments, the obverse die was used with seven different reverse dies that the Wexler files do not list. CONECA numbers those reverses DDR-001, -002, -011, -013, -016, -018 and -023; Flynn numbers them DDR-001, -004, -006, -007, -016, -020 and -022.
