Description
The 1868 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-634 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It repeats the design of J-631 with a star added to Liberty's coronet: the reverse has a V inside a laurel wreath closed by a scroll reading IN GOD WE TRUST and a small Maltese cross. All examples known to USPatterns.com have the high date; just over half a dozen are known. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-706, Adams-Woodin 676 and Taxay EP533. Cataloged as PCGS #60852.
