Description
The 1868 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-626 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is an enlarged version of the nickel three-cent Liberty head, and its reverse shows 5 CENTS inside a laurel wreath with a small IN GOD WE TRUST above. It is struck on a regular-size planchet; about half a dozen are known. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-695, Adams-Woodin 681 and Taxay EP522. Cataloged as PCGS #60843.
