Description
The 1868 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-623 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is an enlarged version of the nickel three-cent Liberty head, and its reverse shows 5 CENTS inside a laurel wreath with a small IN GOD WE TRUST above. It is struck on a regular-size planchet; USPatterns.com puts the known number at 40 to 50. It is struck in nickel with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-5. It is also catalogued as Pollock-692, Adams-Woodin 680 and Taxay EP520. Cataloged as PCGS #60840.
