Description
The 1868 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-627 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is an enlarged version of the nickel three-cent Liberty head, and its reverse shows 5 CENTS inside a laurel wreath with a small IN GOD WE TRUST above. It is struck on a broad planchet; about 15 are known. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-696, Adams-Woodin 685 and Taxay EP522. Cataloged as PCGS #60844.
