Description
The 1868 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-632 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It pairs Longacre's coronet Liberty head without a star with a reverse that has a large six-pointed star above the wreath, a die first used on J-565. About half a dozen are known; the design's first recorded sale was in Haseltine's April 1870 sale. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-702, Adams-Woodin 678 and Taxay EP527. Cataloged as PCGS #60849.
