Description
The 1868 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-631 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It pairs the coronet Liberty head without a star with a reverse of a V inside a simple laurel wreath topped by a small Maltese cross. It was struck only in copper, and two or three are known. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-701, Adams-Woodin 683 and Taxay EP529. Cataloged as PCGS #60848.
