The 1868 Half Eagle Patterns page groups the half eagle patterns dated 1868 in the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series, all struck at the Philadelphia Mint. J-656 to J-659 are the international half eagle, a first attempt at a coin sized to equal the French 25-franc piece after the 1867 Paris monetary conference, in copper and aluminum with reeded or plain edges. J-660 is an aluminum striking from the regular dies.
