The 1866 Cent Patterns page brings together the Judd-numbered cent patterns dated 1866 in the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. All of them come from the regular 1866 Indian Head cent dies struck in other metals: copper on a thick planchet (J-455), copper-nickel (J-456) and nickel (J-457). USPatterns.com notes that some may be mint errors on leftover or wrong planchet stock rather than deliberate trials.
