The 1867 Half Eagle Patterns page brings together the Judd-numbered half eagle patterns dated 1867 in the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. J-599 and J-600 are the regular 1867 half eagle design in copper and nickel. USPatterns.com thinks J-601 (nickel) and J-601a (silver) were struck privately, outside the Mint, from dies Joseph Mickley bought as scrap. USPatterns.com notes that 1867 was the first year the Mint made complete sets of these copper strikes for collectors.
