Description

A business strike impression of the Judd-552 cent pattern variety for 1867. This piece shares the obverse Indian Head design and reverse motto arrangement of the proof version but was struck using standard minting pressure and speed. Business strike patterns from the Reconstruction era are consistently scarcer than their proof equivalents, as the Philadelphia Mint focused its pattern production on high-quality proof specimens for distribution to officials and favored collectors. The bronze composition matches the standard cent alloy of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc that had been in use since the planchet change of 1864.

Rarity Notes
