Description
The 1867 Cent Pattern - J-551 is a cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It was struck from the regular 1867 Indian Head cent dies, so its design matches the regular coin; only the metal differs. Judd lists it in copper-nickel with a plain edge, and USPatterns.com rates it R-8. Judd classes it as a die trial, a strike from regular dies in a metal other than the coin's own. USPatterns.com believes only two or three exist and that it may be a mint error on leftover copper-nickel stock. It is catalogued as Judd-551, Pollock-613. Cataloged as PCGS #70765.
