Description

Judd-428 is the sixth standard 1865 proof quarter motto pattern, completing the main series. This variety presents the final standard configuration evaluated for the quarter denomination. Combined with the extraordinary J-428a bimetallic variant, the J-428 die combination was clearly considered the leading candidate for adoption. The With Motto quarter entered production in 1866 using a design derived from this final refinement series.
