Description

The 1865 Proof Quarter Pattern - J-427 is a proof quarter struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This quarter carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866; USPatterns says some were struck in 1865, when collectors wrote to Mint Director James Pollock asking for them, and others are restrikes from about 1869 on. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge; USPatterns records it as unique. Catalogued as Judd-427, Pollock-499, A/W 501, Taxay EP419. Cataloged as PCGS #60612.
