Description

Judd-425, Pollock-498, is the third 1865 proof quarter motto pattern. By the midpoint of the 1865 quarter series, the design was approaching its final form. The cumulative quarter motto program across three years (1863-1865) produced sixteen varieties, reflecting the care taken to develop a balanced and legible design for this important denomination. The quarter would become one of the most recognizable With Motto coins after its adoption in 1866.
