Description

Judd-423, Pollock-496, is the first of six 1865 proof quarter With Motto patterns (J-423 through J-428, plus J-428a). This extensive final-year series significantly expands the quarter's contribution to the motto program beyond the three 1863 and seven 1864 varieties. The Seated Liberty quarter's reverse received particular attention in 1865, because feedback on the earlier patterns indicated additional refinement was needed for this popular denomination. Struck in silver with proof finish.
