The 1865 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-433 is a proof half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. It is an aluminum striking of the regular 1865 half dollar dies; the single example was given to the Smithsonian in 1963. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-8.
