Description
1857 WDDO-004 is a doubled die obverse on the 1857 Flying Eagle cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class I clockwise (CW) spread shows on USA and on the eagle's beak, eye, neck feathers and talons. Obverse markers: die failure over the D of UNITED and around the first S of STATES; a scratch from the right side of the second A in AMERICA running NE to the rim; a scratch running SE from the rim over the I of AMERICA; and a short gouge running SE from the rim over the upper left of the D in UNITED. Wexler notes no reverse markers. William R. Van Note submitted the variety. Snow numbers it S14, CONECA DDO-010 and Flynn DDO-004.
