1857 Flying Eagle Cent - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1857 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1857 Flying Eagle cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class I counterclockwise (CCW) spread shows on USA and on the eagle's beak, eye and talons. Obverse marker: a short die gouge running north from the upper right of the O in OF. On the reverse, one die crack runs north from the upper left middle leaf to the rim and another runs SE from the bottom right leaf to the rim. William R. Van Note submitted the variety, which Delma K. Romines discovered. Snow numbers it S21, CONECA DDO-012 and Flynn DDO-003.
