Description
1857 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1857 Flying Eagle cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. It has a strong Class I clockwise (CW) spread, a little weaker than on WDDO-001, showing on USA and on the eagle's beak, eye and head feathers, as well as the left wing, the tail, the leg and the talons. Wexler names two features that set this die apart from the other 1857 doubled dies: doubling at the center of the bottom of the M in AMERICA, and the broken tip of the wing. Wexler notes no reverse markers. Sam Lukes submitted it; Delma K. Romines discovered it. Snow numbers it S15 and CONECA DDO-003, Cherrypickers has it as FS-01-1857-102, and Flynn as DDO-002.
