About This Coin
The 1835 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent Base is a United States cent from the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series — the final year of the series. The Mint reported 3,878,400 cents for 1835, including the Head of 1836 coins of the Modified Matron Head series; no mintage was recorded for the proofs. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Minted during the age of Jacksonian democracy. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Designed by Robert Scot.
