The 1820 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent Base is a United States cent from the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series — 5th of 20 years in the series. In 1820, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a combined mintage of 14.0 million. This represents the highest annual mintage in the entire series, above the series median of 4.5 million. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Date, Small Date, and the 1820/19 overdate exist. Higher mintage year. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, with a plain edge. Struck one year before the 1821 key date, the lowest-mintage regular issue in the series. Across its variants, estimated values range from $38 to $3.4K depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type.
