The 1819 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent Base is a United States cent from the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series — an early issue, 4th of 20 years in the series. In 1819, coins were struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a combined mintage of 9.9 million. This represents the second-highest annual mintage in the series, above the series median of 4.5 million. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a hair ribbon inscribed LIBERTY, with a coronet of stars around her head and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Large Date and Small Date varieties. The 1819/8 overdate is a collected variety. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, with a plain edge. Struck two years before the 1821 key date, the lowest-mintage regular issue in the series. Across its variants, estimated values range from $38 to $2.1K depending on mint mark, grade, and strike type. A notable auction result reached $44K in PR64 grade at Heritage Auctions.
