Description
The 1835 Matron Head Coronet Head Cent - Large 8, Stars was struck at the Philadelphia Mint as a cent in the Matron Head Coronet Head Cents 1816-1835 series. The 1835 cent had a mintage of 3.9 million in all, across its date and star varieties; how many are Large 8, Stars coins is not recorded. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, with stars around the border, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing ONE CENT. Minted during the age of Jacksonian democracy. Struck in copper, weighing 10.89 grams, 28 mm in diameter, with a plain edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1720.
