Description
A 1795 Washington Liberty & Security halfpenny with an edge inscription identifying its manufacture in Birmingham, England. The Birmingham edge reads PAYABLE AT THE WAREHOUSE OF THOS & ALEXR HUTCHISON or a similar merchant inscription. These tokens were struck at the Birmingham mint, a prolific source of merchant tokens and colonial coinage in the late 18th century.
