Description

A 1792 Washington Getz Pattern half dollar with the small eagle reverse and WASHINGTON PRESIDENT obverse legend. The small eagle design shows a naturalistic eagle with outspread wings. Peter Getz prepared these pattern coins in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as proposals for United States half dollar coinage. The Washington President legend reflects the early debate about whether to depict the sitting president on coins.

Rarity Notes

Extremely rare. One of the most important early American pattern coins.
