Description
A 1792 Washington Getz Pattern half dollar with a distinctive "LEA" edge marking, referring to an edge lettering variant. This is one of the original Getz pattern pieces proposed as a design for United States coinage in 1792. Peter Getz of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, prepared these dies as part of the early efforts to establish a national coinage. The obverse features Washington's bust and the reverse shows an eagle.
Rarity Notes
Extremely rare. Original Getz patterns are among the rarest Washington pieces.
