NumisDex is a Work in Progress — Help Shape the Future
Transparency About Where We Are
NumisDex launched with an ambitious goal: catalog every known U.S. coin variety and error in a single, searchable platform. We've made significant progress — over 72,000 listings are live and growing — but we want to be upfront: this is a work in progress.
What's Working Well
Catalog coverage — We have comprehensive listings across all major denominations from Half Cents through modern issues, including over 43 distinct error types.
Search — Full-text search with filters for denomination, error type, year, and mint mark.
Community submissions — Anyone can submit new varieties with photos and attribution data.
Community voting — A tiered voting system that rewards expertise and consistent participation.
Portfolio tracking — Build and manage your personal collection with CSV export.
What We're Still Building
We have a roadmap of features we're actively developing. Here are some of the priorities:
Expert Attribution Committee — A formal panel of recognized experts who can provide authoritative verification of submissions.
Advanced pricing data — Historical auction results and market value estimates for varieties.
Enhanced image tools — Side-by-side comparison, zoom overlays, and diagnostic imaging for attribution.
Mobile optimization — While the site works very well on mobile, we're planning dedicated improvements for the mobile experience.
API access — For dealers, researchers, and third-party tools that want to integrate NumisDex data.
How You Can Help
The fastest way to improve NumisDex is through community participation:
Report bugs — Found something broken? Post in the Bug Reports category with steps to reproduce and screenshots.
Suggest features — Have an idea? Post in Feature Suggestions. We read and prioritize every suggestion.
Contribute data — Submit varieties, correct misattributions, and help fill coverage gaps in underrepresented series. If you own bulk data that you would like assistance in uploading, please reach out via direct message or email us at support@numisdex.community.
Spread the word — Tell your collecting friends and club members about NumisDex. The more collectors who participate, the better the catalog becomes.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your feedback, patience, and contributions are what make this project possible.
