Documented by MadDieClashes under the designation TDC-25C-2003-01AR, this typical die clash surfaced on the 2003 (P) Arkansas State Quarter, the twenty-fifth design in the 50 State Quarters program. A die clash results from the obverse and reverse dies striking one another in the absence of a planchet, leaving residual impressions from each die's design embedded in the opposite die face — these transferred marks then appear as raised foreign design elements on coins struck afterward. The Arkansas quarter reverse, designed by John Merkanti, presents a diamond shape surrounding a lake and pine trees with rice stalks framing the composition, reflecting the state's agricultural heritage and natural resources.
