About This Coin
Round gold quarter dollars of Period Two in the Breen-Gillio catalogue, mostly dated 1858 to 1882, with a few pieces bearing earlier dates. These jewelers' issues were usually lighter than their face value and were sold as charms and keepsakes; they carry Liberty, Indian or Washington heads. Makers named in the sources include Frontier & Bellemere, Christopher Ferdinand Mohrig, and Reuben N. Hershfield and Noah Mitchell, whose pieces carry an H below the head.
