About This Coin
Eight-sided gold quarter dollars of Period Two in the Breen-Gillio catalogue, mostly dated 1859 to 1882, with a few pieces bearing earlier dates. These jewelers' issues were usually lighter than their face value and were sold as charms and keepsakes; they carry Liberty, Indian or Washington heads. Makers named in the sources include Frontier, Deviercy & Co., Frontier & Bellemere, Robert B. Gray & Co. and Christopher Ferdinand Mohrig, whose Indian-head pieces fill the lettered BG-799 numbers.
