About This Coin

A rare copper token dated 1797, produced for a theater in New York City. Theater tokens were used during this period as admission pieces or promotional items, and this example represents one of the few surviving numismatic connections to early American theatrical culture. Very few specimens are known, making this one of the scarcer entries in the post-colonial private token series.
